Green River Game Land

The Game Lands is a beautiful wilderness area along the Green River in North Carolina. The landscape contains plenty of waterfalls, gorges, ravines, coves, different forests, wildflowers, and rare plants. The area is home to uncommon bird species, many reptilian species, and a large population of deer and black bear. The Game Lands offer great opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking, picnicking, kayaking, canoeing, and birdwatching. The deer hunting season begins in September and continues to December, but hunting is not allowed on sundays.

Laughter Pond

The 6-acre pond is located in Mill Spring, at highway 108, about 3 miles northeast of Columbus. The pond has been stocked with thousands of fish, and offers great opportunities for fishing of channel catfish, largemouth bass, and other fish species. A tackle loaner program makes it possible for people without own fishing equipment to go fishing. The pond also has a handicap friendly pier which can accommodate a large number of anglers. Laughter Pond is known as an excellent fishing spot for a wide range of people, from newcomers to experienced anglers.
